Dear PiFO Supporter,
Paid in Full Oregon now has three separate classes attending the Corban extension in OSCI…freshmen, sophomores, and juniors who are all in pursuit of fully accredited college degrees. The college degree will be a BS in liberal arts, emphasizing psychology, social services and leadership. This is the first college degree program of its kind in the Oregon Department of Corrections.
We are starting to see some of our students pursue some initiatives on their own. For example, one of our students has proposed an Internship Program that will focus on personal growth for incarcerated adults in the DOC.
This program will seek input from Corban professors, chaplains, and other DOC staff. This proposal will be augmented with textbooks, research papers and other academic studies on healthy life practices while incarcerated.
This internship program will be initially available to our junior class. The purpose of the program will be to provide an opportunity for our junior students to begin the overall mission of Paid in Full Oregon to change the culture of the prison system from the inside out. This is exciting to see our students take ownership of this goal.
There is a Greek word that I love. It is Kairos. It means “the moment in time when change is possible.” I loved it so much that I had it tattooed several years ago on my upper arm. This is the moment in time when change is happening in the Oregon DOC!
Thank you all so much for your prayers and financial support.
Ever grateful,
Tom Kohl
